Covers topics that come up often in the exam: the rules for probationary (new) drivers, tunnels and level crossings, lane use, and the shapes and colours of traffic signs. In first aid it asks about external bleeding, helping babies, poisoning and seizures; in vehicle technology, overheating, brake fluid and emission systems.
This is the English version of our Turkish Deneme Sınavı 2: the same 50 questions, scored the same way as the real e-Sınav (2 points per question, 70 to pass). There is no timer here; in the real exam you get 45 minutes. All rules are Turkish rules, so some answers may differ from what you learned in another country.

Question 1 of 50Traffic and Environment
For how long are people who get a driving licence for the first time treated as "probationary drivers" (aday sürücü)?
People who get a licence for the first time, and those who get one again after it was cancelled, are probationary drivers for 2 years from the date the licence was issued. The period is a trial during which new drivers are expected to follow the rules more strictly while they gain experience.
Question 2 of 50Traffic and Environment
During the probationary period, a driver's licence is cancelled if their total penalty points go above what number?
Under the rule as revised by Law No. 7590, a probationary licence is cancelled if total penalty points exceed 75. It is also cancelled for an offence that calls for temporary withdrawal of the licence, for driving any type of vehicle above 0.20 promille, or for breaking one of these rules three times: turning, giving way at pedestrian crossings, or seat belt/helmet use. For other drivers the limit is 100 points in a year.
Question 3 of 50Traffic and Environment
Outside built-up areas, on a two-way (undivided) road, what is the speed limit for cars?
Unless a sign says otherwise, the limit for cars on two-way intercity roads is 90 km/h. It rises to 110 km/h on dual carriageways with a central reservation and 120 km/h on motorways.
Question 4 of 50Traffic and Environment
In a crash with only damage to vehicles (no deaths or injuries), what should the drivers do if they agree on what happened?
Correct answer: B) Fill in an accident report and move the vehicles off the road
In damage-only crashes, if the drivers agree, they fill in the joint accident report form (kaza tespit tutanağı) together, take photos if needed, and move the vehicles out of the way so traffic can flow. If they do not agree, or someone is hurt, the police are called.
Except in an emergency, stopping and parking are forbidden in tunnels. When entering a tunnel, switch on dipped headlights, keep to the speed limit and the following distance, and do not change lanes unnecessarily.
Question 6 of 50Traffic and Environment
Approaching a level crossing with barriers, you see the barriers coming down. What should you do?
Correct answer: C) Stop and wait for the barriers to open
Do not go onto the crossing once the barriers start to come down or the warning lights come on. Trains approach very fast and need hundreds of metres to stop; the driver stops and waits until the barriers are fully up.
Question 7 of 50Traffic and Environment
Within how many metres of junctions, pedestrian crossings and level crossings are stopping and parking forbidden?
You must not stop or park within 5 metres of a junction, a pedestrian crossing or a level crossing. A vehicle left there blocks the view of other drivers and pedestrians and can cause a crash.
Question 8 of 50Traffic and Environment
On a multi-lane road, which lane should a driver use if they are going more slowly than other traffic?
Slower vehicles keep to the far right lane; the lanes to the left are for overtaking and faster traffic. Sitting in the left lane for no reason slows traffic down and leads to dangerous overtaking on the right. The hard shoulder is not for driving on.
Question 9 of 50Traffic and Environment
Which lane should a driver use before turning right at a junction?
A driver who is going to turn right signals in good time, moves into the far right lane and makes a tight turn into the junction. This avoids a collision with anyone trying to pass on the right.
Question 10 of 50Traffic and Environment
On a road with two-way traffic, where should a driver position the car before turning left?
Correct answer: D) At the far left of their own side of the road
A driver turning left signals and moves to the part of their own side nearest the centre of the road (the far left of their side). They do not cross into the opposite lane, and they complete the turn after giving way to oncoming vehicles and pedestrians.
Correct answer: A) In fog, snow or heavy rain that reduces visibility
Fog lights are for fog, snow and heavy rain that seriously reduce visibility. A rear fog light used in clear weather dazzles drivers behind and can be mistaken for brake lights.
Question 12 of 50Traffic and Environment
Two vehicles meet on a narrow, steep hill where they cannot pass each other. Which one should give way?
On narrow, steep hills, the vehicle going down gives way to the one coming up. It is hard for the vehicle climbing to stop and move off again on the slope, while the one coming down can stop more easily and pull into a suitable spot.
Question 13 of 50Traffic and Environment
The traffic light is green but a traffic police officer signals you to stop. Which should you obey?
In the order of precedence, a traffic police officer's signals come before traffic lights and signs. The officer is directing traffic according to what is happening at that moment, so their signal is the one to follow.
Danger warning signs are equilateral triangles with a white background and a red border, one corner pointing up. They warn in advance of a hazard ahead, such as a bend, a slippery road or a pedestrian crossing. Red-bordered circles show prohibitions; blue circles show mandatory instructions.
Question 15 of 50Traffic and Environment
What shape are signs that show a prohibition or restriction usually?
Prohibitions and restrictions, such as speed limits, no overtaking or no entry, are usually shown by circular signs with a white background and a red border. Blue circles show mandatory instructions, and red-bordered triangles warn of danger.
Question 16 of 50Traffic and Environment
In Turkey, what is the background colour of motorway direction signs?
In Turkey, direction signs on motorways have a green background, while direction signs on other roads are blue. Brown signs point to tourist and cultural sites.
Question 17 of 50Traffic and Environment
What is the safest way to carry young children in a car?
In a crash a child can be thrown from an adult's lap, and an adult seat belt does not fit a small child's body. A correctly fitted child seat suited to the child's age, height and weight gives the best protection.
Question 18 of 50Traffic and Environment
Which is correct about used engine oil drained from a car?
Correct answer: D) It must be handed in at an authorised collection point
Used engine oil pollutes soil and groundwater for a long time; even a very small amount can make a large volume of water unusable. It must be taken to a waste oil collection point or to an authorised garage that does oil changes.
Question 19 of 50Traffic and Environment
Which of these helps reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emissions?
Correct answer: C) Taking off a roof rack you are not using
An empty roof rack increases air resistance and raises fuel consumption, especially at high speed. Getting rid of unnecessary weight, keeping the right tyre pressure and driving smoothly also cut fuel use and emissions.
Question 20 of 50Traffic and Environment
Which of these is NOT a priority vehicle (a vehicle with the right to priority passage)?
Vehicles such as ambulances, fire engines and police cars use their priority by showing lights and sounding sirens while on duty. A taxi has no priority, even when it is carrying a passenger.
Question 21 of 50Traffic and Environment
Which statement about a driver using a mobile phone while driving is correct?
Correct answer: D) Calls are allowed only with a hands-free system
While driving it is forbidden to hold the phone to talk, to text or to fiddle with the screen; only hands-free systems may be used. Even a few seconds of distraction means driving "blind" for a long stretch of road.
Question 22 of 50Traffic and Environment
What may the hard shoulder on a motorway be used for?
Correct answer: C) Stopping in a breakdown or emergency
The hard shoulder is only for stopping after a breakdown, a crash or in an emergency, and for priority vehicles to get through. Driving on it in a traffic jam blocks the way for ambulances and fire engines.
On motorways, reversing, making U-turns and crossing the central reservation to the other carriageway are forbidden. In fast-moving traffic these moves cause very serious crashes; if you miss your exit, take the next one.
Question 24 of 50First Aid
What is the first thing to do to stop external bleeding?
For external bleeding the first and most effective step is direct pressure on the wound with a clean cloth or gauze. If the cloth soaks through, do not remove it; put a new one on top. A tourniquet is only used for amputations and bleeding that cannot be stopped any other way.
Question 25 of 50First Aid
A tourniquet has been applied to a casualty whose arm has been severed. What should be done next?
Correct answer: D) The time it was applied should be noted
The time the tourniquet was applied matters to the medical team planning treatment, so it is noted and written somewhere visible on the casualty. The first aider does not loosen the tourniquet and does not cover it.
Question 26 of 50First Aid
How are chest compressions given to a baby (under 1 year old)?
A baby's chest is small and flexible, so compressions are given with two fingers on the lower half of the breastbone. For adults you use both hands, and for young children usually one hand.
Question 27 of 50First Aid
A conscious baby's airway is completely blocked by a foreign object. What do you do?
Correct answer: A) 5 back blows and 5 chest thrusts
Lay the baby face down along your forearm with the head lower than the body and give 5 blows between the shoulder blades; then turn the baby onto its back and give 5 chest thrusts. Abdominal thrusts are not used on babies because they can injure the internal organs.
Question 28 of 50First Aid
What is the right thing to do for a conscious person who may have been poisoned?
Correct answer: B) Call 114 or 112 and follow the instructions
Do not make a poisoned person vomit: corrosive substances damage the gullet a second time on the way back up. Do not give milk or salt water either. Find out the name and amount of what was taken, call 114 (the National Poison Information Centre) or 112, and follow their instructions.
Question 29 of 50First Aid
Which position do you put someone in who has fainted (lost consciousness briefly)?
Correct answer: A) Lying on their back with the legs raised
Fainting happens when blood flow to the brain drops for a short time. Lay the person on their back, raise their legs, loosen tight clothing and make sure they get fresh air. If they do not come round quickly, call 112.
Question 30 of 50First Aid
What should you do when giving first aid to someone having an epileptic seizure?
Correct answer: B) Protect their head and make the area around them safe
During the seizure, move hard and sharp objects away so the person does not get hurt, and put something soft under their head. Do not put anything in their mouth and do not restrain the movements. When the seizure ends, put them in the recovery position.
Question 31 of 50First Aid
A conscious person has a crushing chest pain spreading to the left arm and is sweating. What should be done?
Correct answer: C) Rest them half sitting and call 112
These signs suggest a heart attack. Do not move the person around; rest them half sitting to reduce the strain on the heart, loosen their clothing and call 112 without delay. Do not let them drive themselves to hospital.
Question 32 of 50First Aid
After a traffic crash, a conscious casualty may have a spinal injury. How should you treat them?
Correct answer: D) Do not move them unless absolutely necessary
With a spinal injury, a wrong movement can cause permanent paralysis. Keep the head, neck and body in line and still; unless there is a life-threatening danger such as fire, do not move the casualty before the medical team arrives.
Correct answer: C) Getting a casualty out of a vehicle urgently
The Rautek manoeuvre is a technique for getting a casualty out of a vehicle while keeping the head, neck and body in line, used when there is an immediate danger such as fire or explosion. If there is no such danger, the casualty is not taken out of the vehicle.
Question 34 of 50First Aid
What is the right thing to do for a casualty with a foreign object stuck in the eye?
Correct answer: A) Keep the object still and cover both eyes
Do not try to remove an object stuck in the eye, as this can cause more damage. Support the object so it cannot move, and cover both eyes, because the eyes move together. Do not press on the eye, and get the casualty to a medical facility as soon as possible.
Frozen tissue is very fragile; rubbing it, or rubbing it with snow, injures it further. Move the person somewhere warm, take off wet clothing, cover them and warm the area gradually.
Question 36 of 50Engine and Vehicle Technology
In a petrol engine, which part ignites the fuel-air mixture in the cylinder?
The spark plug uses high voltage from the ignition system to make a spark that ignites the fuel-air mixture in a petrol engine. In a diesel engine the fuel ignites by itself in the heat of the compressed air.
Question 37 of 50Engine and Vehicle Technology
While driving, the engine temperature gauge goes into the red (overheating). What should you do?
Correct answer: C) Stop and wait for the engine to cool down
If the engine overheats, stop somewhere safe and wait for it to cool down. Opening the radiator cap on a hot engine can make boiling, pressurised coolant spray out and cause serious burns. Check the coolant level once the engine has cooled.
In hydraulic brakes, the force on the pedal is carried to the wheels by the brake fluid. If the fluid is low or leaking, the pedal sinks and braking gets weaker. If the brake warning light comes on, have the system checked.
Correct answer: B) Damp the bouncing of the springs
Shock absorbers damp the movement of the springs, limit bouncing and keep the tyres in contact with the road. The springs carry the vehicle's weight. Worn shock absorbers lengthen stopping distances and reduce grip on bends.
When the alignment is off, the car pulls to one side on a straight road and the tyres wear unevenly. An unbalanced wheel, on the other hand, makes the steering wheel vibrate at certain speeds. Regular checks protect both safety and tyre life.
Question 41 of 50Engine and Vehicle Technology
What problem does a clogged air filter cause in the engine?
Correct answer: C) Loss of power and higher fuel consumption
The air filter traps dust and particles in the air going into the engine. A clogged filter stops the engine getting enough air, so combustion gets worse, power drops and fuel consumption rises. The filter should be changed at the service intervals.
Question 42 of 50Engine and Vehicle Technology
What does it mean if the charging (battery) warning light comes on while you are driving?
Correct answer: A) The charging system is not working
The charging light means the system that charges the battery (alternator, drive belt and so on) is not working. The car then runs on the battery alone and stops when it is flat. If the alternator belt has snapped, the water pump may also have stopped, so have the car checked as soon as possible.
Correct answer: B) Reduces harmful gases in the exhaust
The catalytic converter uses chemical reactions to turn carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas into less harmful gases. The silencer reduces exhaust noise, and in diesel cars soot is trapped by a separate particulate filter.
Question 44 of 50Engine and Vehicle Technology
Which is correct about using the starter motor when starting the engine?
Correct answer: D) Use it in short bursts, with pauses in between
The starter motor draws a high current; running it for a long time flattens the battery and overheats and damages the starter. If the engine does not start, pause briefly and try again; if it still will not start after a few tries, look for the fault.
Question 45 of 50Traffic Etiquette
Roadworks reduce two lanes to one. What is the best way to behave?
Correct answer: A) Merge in turn, one by one (zip merging)
In zip merging, vehicles from the two lanes take turns to merge one by one at the point where the road narrows. Traffic flows faster and the tension over who goes first disappears. Waiting your turn and giving the other driver a chance is what traffic etiquette asks of you.
Question 46 of 50Traffic Etiquette
A driver without a disability parks "just for a minute" in a disabled parking space. What can be said about this?
Correct answer: D) Even briefly, it is forbidden and disrespectful
Disabled parking spaces are for people who need more room to get in and out of a car and a shorter distance to walk. Taking the space, even for "a few minutes", takes away that person's right, and it is an offence that carries a fine.
Question 47 of 50Traffic Etiquette
The light has turned green but the car in front does not move off straight away. What is the best response?
Correct answer: B) Wait patiently for a few seconds
The driver in front may be waiting for a pedestrian, a priority vehicle or an obstacle you cannot see. Being patient, and if necessary giving a short, polite reminder, avoids tension and may prevent a crash.
Question 48 of 50Traffic Etiquette
How should a driver who wants to overtake a cyclist behave?
Correct answer: C) Slow down and leave plenty of room to the side
A cyclist may suddenly change direction because of wind, a pothole or an obstacle. Leaving enough room to the side and reducing speed when overtaking keeps one of the most vulnerable road users safe.
Question 49 of 50Traffic Etiquette
On a narrow street another driver gives way to you. What is the best response?
Correct answer: A) Thank them with a wave of the hand
A small wave or nod to say thank you makes communication on the road friendlier and helps good behaviour spread. The horn is a warning device used only to signal danger; it is not for saying thank you.
Question 50 of 50Traffic Etiquette
A driver double-parks and blocks another car in. How is this behaviour judged?
Correct answer: D) It is disrespectful and forbidden
Double parking narrows the road and leaves the other car's owner stuck; in an emergency it can even have serious consequences. Switching on hazard lights or leaving a note does not change that. Respecting other people's rights is the basic principle of traffic etiquette.
The mix of subjects matches the real exam: First Aid 12, Traffic and Environment 23, Engine and Vehicle Technology 9, Traffic Etiquette 6 questions. Each correct answer is worth 2 points, so you need 35 correct answers out of 50 to reach 70. A wrong answer does not take points away, so in the real exam it is better to pick the most likely option than to leave a question blank.
How to get the most out of it
Answer every question before you open the explanation, then read the explanations for the ones you got wrong. Pay special attention to rules that are specific to Turkey, such as the speed limits, the 0.50 promille alcohol limit for private car drivers, the 112 and 114 emergency numbers and the probationary driver rules. If you can score 80 or more on both tests, you are in good shape.
